A note from our client during the COVID-19 crises
Dear Buck and Victor,I cannot go another day of being in this beautiful house without telling you what an incredible joy it is to live in.I truly don’t think I would be able to endure this lockdown without the peace it gives me.Everyone who comes in here (just recently our tennis coach and his wife) gasps. From the front hall, which I love, to the wonderful columns and the rooms and their exquisite contents and the view beyond, it is just a stunner.I know I gave you the general layout that I wanted, but the scale and proportion of the design is simply perfect The gallery with all our family pictures. From my big toile covered chair,(which has become my office,) I can see the entire set of main rooms and that swath of green that is Tantalus.Then about 5:00, when I am in the kitchen I look beyond the green, and the city seems to glow with the light from the west, and the ocean above it is bright blue.Wow.

Sunhala has been in our family since 1968. A 1963 era contemporary home designed by architect Hal Whitaker sits on over an acre of Kahala ocean frontage. Our greatest challenge in approaching the remodel was in finding the right architect that would understand that sensitivity. What Victor Weeks of Welch and Weeks designed was perfect. Our friends and family that know Sunhala all have the same basic comment about the remodel, which is, "It is the same only better”!

I am writing to recommend Victor (Welch and Weeks). He designed and supervised the construction of our beach house at Kawela Bay, Oahu. We love the house in large part because of his smart thoughtful design. He listened to our needs, and translated them into a beautiful Hawaiian design. We built the house in 2010 and it has held up to the assault by salt, water, wind and sand from the beach in large part because of his choice of materials. The design process was fun and very stress free due in large part to his easy going and empathetic manner. You really can’t do better than Victor.

With Welch and Weeks, our project went smoothly and without any preventable delays. During the design phase, Victor Weeks was responsive and collaborative while being mindful of appropriate materials for our beach location.
