PORTLOCK
Building a custom home is one of the biggest and most personal projects you can take on—and having the right architect by your side makes all the difference. For us, that person was Victor Weeks from Welch and Weeks.
Victor worked with me and my wife on our home in Koko Kai from March 2018 until we completed the project in September 2023. Though the build took longer than expected due to COVID delays, Victor remained fully committed the entire way. He never once complained and stayed engaged from concept to completion—100% present and hands-on throughout.
He worked closely with the general contractor and me to ensure every detail matched the vision and design. The entire home was custom—every piece cut, shaped, and built specifically for the project—and Victor was there making sure everything met his (and our) high standards. He also personally reviewed all billing from suppliers and the GC before I made any payments, which was a huge help in keeping everything organized and aboveboard.
One of the things I appreciated most was how well Victor listened. During the design phase, he made multiple trips to the property to get a deep sense of the land, the surroundings, and how to design a home that truly belonged on the property—and also belonged to us. And then there were the times when Buck Welch would come with Victor, and the two of them would collaborate on something important—bringing both creative minds together to elevate the project even more.
I’m a hands-on client who asks a lot of questions and likes to stay involved, and Victor handled that dynamic with patience, focus, and professionalism.
Anyone can do well when a job goes smoothly. But when you're building a fully custom home from the ground up, challenges are inevitable. That’s when Victor really proved his value—he calmly addressed problems, collaborated with the right people, and kept the job moving forward.
Bottom line: if I ever build another house, I wouldn’t even consider anyone else. I’d call Victor—and I’d do it with complete confidence. What more can be said!
