Set into the hillside above Honolulu. Hale Mau'umae reinterprets the language of the Hawaiian plantation home through a contemporary lens. Designed for multi-generational living, the house is composed as a series of balanced volumes organized around a central indoor-outdoor flow.
A careful sequencing of spaces-entry, lanai and garden-establishes a rhythm that blurs the boundary between inside and out. Proportions and restraint guide the design, allowing the home to feel at once familiar and enduring, as if it has always belonged to its setting.
